A recent study has revealed that the lowering cholesterol levels will prevent the growth of cancer cells.

Let me tell you, this research was funded by National Institutes of Health & the US Army Department of Defense.

According to the researchers, a high cholesterol level may also cause a Heart disease and Atherosclerosis. Cholesterol level plays an important role in cancer progression. It may also initiate a growth of cancer cells.

It is your diet that plays an important role in cholesterol level. Practicing Western diet increase the risk of prostate cancer. Dr. Solomon suggests a lower consumption of food with high cholesterol or high fat content. These foods are known to help the cancer growth in the prostate gland.

Keith Solomon, PhD and his colleagues conducted this experiment on mice. Mice were fed with food known to have high cholesterol and fat content. A close observation showed that as cholesterol level increases, there was acceleration in the growth of cancer cells. They also found out that Ezetimibe can control this abnormal growth. Ezetimibe achieves this by preventing the cholesterol absorption from the intestine. As cholesterol level drops, it will diminish the tumor progression.

Ezetimibe can prevent angiogenesis due to high cholesterol level. For cancer progression, it is necessary that there should formation new blood vessels. This growth is prevented by Ezetimibe.

In simple words, lower cholesterol level blocks angiogenesis and hence the cancer progression.

Scientists are working on a study on humans to confirm the theory.
